MORE ABOUT START YOUNG WORKSHOP
Start Young is a hands-on workshop that pushes children to explore their creative potential freely and trust their capacity to solve problems and test their solutions. With Start Young, kids learn to:
Observe > Analyze > Solve > Model > Test
The goal is to empower children to adopt innovative ways of thinking and enhance their creative confidence. Start Young was developed by We are rap. design studio in Montréal in partnership with ico-D, and was carried out with great success for World Design Day 2017 and 2018 in design institutions in Argentina, Canada, Mexico, South Africa and more!
Read this firsthand account from WDD2018 from Open Design Cape Town (South Africa):
"In Cape Town, South Africa we held #WDD2018KidsCanToo in an impoverished and gang ridden area called Lavender Hill. The children made us so proud as this is something very foreign to them. They worked together beautifully, they got creative and designed some interesting chairs.
We had some tears and learnt important lessons on never giving up - because you've only failed when you stop trying. We had lots of laughs and loads of fun. At the same time we celebrated Freedom Day, the day our country had its first democratic election 27 April 1994. What an exciting and busy morning with @intcouncildesign, @opendesignct and Learning In Reach."

ABOUT WORLD DESIGN DAY
A concept for WDD was developed by Kim Paulsen (Icograda Vice President 1993-1995) to commemorate the founding of ico-D on 27 April 1963. The day has been celebrated since 1995 as World Graphics Day, as World Communication Design Day since 2012, and currently called World Design Day.
