SO TINY, SO MANY: ICOGRADA DESIGN WEEK IN HONG KONG, 20 > 25 JANUARY 2006

Hong Kong (China) - From 20 > 25 January 2006, Icograda Design Week in Hong Kong will shoulder the mission of setting creative standards for graphic design and visual communication in the region of Southeast Asia while educating and inspiring the public.
Hong Kong is a city of great contrast and diversities. It is so tiny, but has so many things. But does tiny mean incapable? Does many mean modern/contemporary, fulfilling and civilized? We describe the people of Hong Kong as being very flexible and highly practical, but is that good or bad? Hong Kong is a shopping paradise, so does that mean it is taking part in consumerism and exploitation? What is the role of design in such a city? How can design influence our views? And how can designers make a positive impact with their skills in Hong Kong?
Through this event, the Hong Kong Design Centre and other collaborators aim to enhance the visibility and practice of graphic design and visual communication in this region of the world by:
-- Creating opportunities for exchange, the sharing of experience and collaboration among graphic design educational institutions;
-- Examining the current and future needs and challenges of graphic design and visual communication;
-- Developing more flexibility in teaching methodology in order to facilitate a better learning environment and positive attitudes among students;
-- Promoting design industries in terms of their contribution to the social and economic development of a rapidly changing world;
-- Fostering creativity among design students;
-- Promoting the exchange of information, views and research among graphic information designers;
-- Providing networking opportunities for design organisations and colleagues worldwide.
