Eindhoven (The Netherlands)  - The seventh edition of the Dutch Design Awards has officially begun. Scouts are now searching the design field for the very best work available and the online registration for this free competition is now open. The aim is to present excellent design on stage during the festive Award Show.

Active scouting and online entries
The strength of the new DDA approach lies in the fact that scouts are actively searching the market for the best work and the best designers. DDA 2008 was a testimony to the success of this approach. Professionals from the design community spoke highly of the quality level of the finalists and the winners in 2008. This approach will therefore remain unchanged in 2009. As will the possibility for designers to submit their best work themselves. Between 15 April - 15 May 2009, designs can be submitted online for participation in the main categories Communication, Product, Spatial, and the Rado Young Designer Award via the DDA website. This year, participation in the Dutch Design Awards is once again free. Check the website for relevant information on categories, criteria, and regulations.

Selection procedure
The selection committees select the finalists per subcategory from the total number of scouted works and online entries. The international jury ultimately decides who will be standing on the stage with a Dutch Design Award on Saturday 17 October 2009.

Best Client Award
Special attention is paid to the Best Client Award, a prize that is awarded to the commissioning client who has proved his ability to integrate design strategically into the industrial processes and to manage the organisation process and the cooperation with bureaus or designers in such a way that this strategy is translated into concrete products or services.  Bureaus and designers can nominate their best commissioning client for this award.

Competition and festive Award Show
The competition is at the heart of the Dutch Design Awards. No less than 20 Dutch Design Awards will be allocated in the main categories Communication, Product, and Spatial. In addition to this, the jury will grant an ‘overall prize’ - The Golden Eye - to the most successful design of 2009. The competition also comprises a number of special awards: the Audi Design Award (the public award), the Rado Young Designer Award, the Best Client Award, and the Life Time Achievement Award. All winners will be announced during the festive Award Show on 17 October 2009. The designs of all finalists and winners will subsequently be showcased during the Dutch Design Week in a one-week exhibition in the Brainport Greenhouse on the Stadhuisplein in Eindhoven.

Winner Dutch Design Awards 2008
In 2008, Christien Meindertsma appeared on the stage three times. Apart from the Award for the best graphic design and the Rado Young Designer Award, she also won ‘the Golden Eye' - best of the best 2008. This remarkable feat made her the big winner with her book PIG 05049.
