SAPPI AND ICOGRADA JOIN FORCES TO RAISE THE STANDARDS OF GRAPHIC DESIGN
02.03.2001 News
Brussels (Belgium) - Following the sponsorship of the Icograda Design Seminar in London, Sappi, the world's leading coated fine paper producer, is now an official sponsoring partner of Icograda, the International Council for Graphic Design Associations. This partnership begins with an initial commitment for two years and coincides with the Sappi World Design Convergence, a mega event that includes the Icograda Congress, to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in September later this year.
"We are proud to have Sappi as our official partner and to be associated with the paper manufacturing expertise and product innovation that this company represents," says Icograda president David Grossman. "Icograda's membership is growing at a rapid pace and is reaching all regions. The international community of graphic designers is becoming far more inter-connected and active. Partnering with an international leader like Sappi is a perfect choice for us."
"We hope that our support of Icograda will contribute substantially towards the sharing of ideas and design excellence across the globe," says Sappi Fine Paper Europe's marketing director Michael Spallart. "Paper remains a creative and effective communications medium even in a world of growing electronic alternatives. Our partnership with Icograda is an ideal vehicle to provide knowledge and understanding about paper to the design community and an opportunity to present our value added products and services in the international arena."
Sappi's strategy to develop closer communication with the international design community is also reflected in the recently launched Sappi Idea Exchange. This innovative portal on the world wide web provides a number of useful services to the design community including a Library of Ideas, a Resource Finder, a Knowledge Bank and the possibility to order paper samples on line.
The Sappi Ideas that Matter initiative whereby the company invites graphic designers to apply for funding for creative promotional campaigns that are in support of worthy causes is also unique. It combines the talents and skills of the design community with the good corporate citizenship of the company for the benefit of society as a whole.
Sappi's innovative marketing approach extends beyond the design community to include printers, publishers and business communicators, all key players in the specification of paper and the production of dynamic printed communications. It produces some of the world's leading brands of coated fine paper, including Magno, HannoArt, Uni, Empress and Royal, used mainly for the production of superior advertising and promotional print.
Icograda is the representative international organization for graphic design and visual communication, with 67 member associations in 43 countries worldwide. Founded in London in 1963, Icograda holds consultative status with UNESCO, UNIDO, and the Council of Europe.
All Icograda's printed material will subsequently be printed on Sappi papers.
