OHIM E-NEWSLETTER A VALUABLE RESOURCE FOR PROPERTY RIGHTS MANAGEMENT

Brussels (Belgium) - Earlier this year, the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market - Trade Marks and Designs (OHIM)* launched Alicante News, European trade marks and designs,
a free monthly e-newsletter providing information on property rights in
the European Community (EU). Based in Spain, the OHIM is both an agency
of the EU and an industrial property office dedicated to registering

The
OHIM is the official authority carrying out the intellectual property
rights procedures for the Community trade marks since 1996 and for the
Community registered design since 2003. These intellectual property
rights are valid in all the countries of the EU. A uniform law applies
to trade marks and designs, thereby providing strong and unique
protection throughout the European Union. The uniformity means that
formalities and management can be simplified and carried out in a
single administrative centre - the OHIM. The simplification results in
considerably reduced costs, in comparison to the overall costs of
national registration in all EU countries.
After 10
years of activity in the field of intellectual property and involvement
in e-business and technologies, the OHIM is moving from printing a
paper newsletter to e-mailing a monthly e-newsletter. Among the aims of
this initiative are the general improvement of OHIM's communication and
external relations and a better, guided promotion of the services it
offers. Featuring articles and news about Trade Marks, Design and Case
Law, the OHIM's e-newsletter is a beneficial resource for creative
professionals and design firms. All the issues of the newsletter will
