Cited by HOW and Print design magazines as “one of the hottest communities for design in the nation,” ICoD is pleased to welcome new Member AIGA San Diego Tijuana, the San Diego chapter of AIGA since 1987.
The San Diego chapter of AIGA, The Professional Organisation for Design, has been a dynamic contributor to the local creative community since 1987. The chapter is part of the national network founded in 1914 in New York City as the American Institute of Graphic Arts, which has since changed its name to “AIGA, The Professional Association for Design” in 2005. HOW and Print magazines have cited AIGA San Diego as “one of the hottest communities for design in the nation.”
AIGA San Diego Tijuana presents the International Design Celebration October 24th-26th 2024.
The membership structure of AIGA San Diego Tijuana made up of professional designers, design students, and design educators from the fields of graphic and environmental graphic design. Additionally, UX/UI designers, game designers, product designers, photographers, and illustrators are part of AIGA San Diego Tijuana’s design network. The vision of AIGA San Diego Tijuana chapter is to focus on supporting design education, students and educators.
PROGRAMMES
Their local events provide educational, career enhancement and social opportunities for professional designers, educators, students and design enthusiasts in various fields including graphic design, UX design, photography, illustration, web development and more. AIGA San Diego Tijuana started one of the first regional design conferences, the Y Design Conference, which ran for 26 years. They helped start the first ever international chapter AIGA Baja in 1999 and were apart of team that created a winning bid for the World Design Capital 2024 designation.

This year’s annual Tijuana Design Week 2024 is a special edition through partnership with World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024. The theme “Expanded Present” offered a perspective where design is the axis of a timeless analysis of the history (past), present (present) and possible scenarios (future) of the context in the Tijuana region and the rest of the world. For 26 years AIGA San Diego Tijuana produced an annual design conference called the Y Design Conference and a quarterly speaker series Intrepido. The recent International Design Celebration includes the International Design Leadership Summit, a regional Design Showcase, and a regional Design Awards programme.
The professional AIGA San Diego Tijuana provides programming for design students throughout the year and supports design educators in the community.
