Montréal (Canada) - Montréal International (MI) has announced the upcoming international conference on innovation and business development, called Innovation Montréal 2008, which will be held 6-7 October, 2008 at Centre Mont-Royal. This first edition offers a rich program of lectures, luncheon discussions, round tables and business meetings, and will feature more than 30 speakers from Europe, Asia and North America.

"We aim to position Montréal as a key location for innovation on the world scene," declared Pierre Brunet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Montréal International. "This event, which is at the very core of our mandate to support the development of innovation in the metropolitan region, will allow Montréal companies to discover daring models of innovation in human capital, funding, collaboration with universities, and competitive clusters. Innovation is an increasingly strategic factor for business at all levels," he added.

Among the program's highlights, the Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, Minister of Tourism and Minister responsible for the Montréal region, Raymond Bachand, will deliver an address on the strategic orientations of the Government of Québec in innovation and research. "Innovation is the key to the knowledge economy. It makes us more competitive and equips us better to face global competition. This is a matter of corporate culture," Mr. Bachand pointed out. "Innovation Montréal 2008 is the ideal opportunity to benefit from the experience of world leaders and implement new business practices. I am convinced that this event will help stimulate the innovative capacity and creative power of our businesses," he added.

The Mayor of Montréal and Chairman of the Montréal Metropolitan Community, Gérald Tremblay, will also participate in the event and deliver an address on the theme of clusters, innovation and creativity, in the presence of the Mayor of Lyon, Gérard Collomb, and representatives of Montréal and Lyon industrial clusters. "The Montréal model of industrial clusters is a catalyst for the metropolitan area's creative capital. The clusters help to fuel and accelerate the innovation process, while improving the productivity and competitiveness of our economy," Mayor Tremblay explained.

Innovation Montréal 2008 will also feature Louis Carbonneau, General Manager, IP Licensing, Intellectual Property and Licensing Group at Microsoft (Redmond, Washington); Joel Moskowitz, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Ceradyne (Costa Mesa, California); Charles Sirois, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Telesystem and Enablis Réseau Entrepreneurial (Montréal), Philippe Vanrie, Manager Director of European Business and Innovation Centre Network (Brussels, Belgium); and Dr. Ryoji Yano, Senior Director, Pro-Cluster Kobe, of the Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation (Kobe, Japan).

"Montréal International thanks Lyon Science Transfert and the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Lyon, which collaborated in organizing this conference, and all of the partners associated with the project, including Centre Jacques Cartier, the Government of Québec, Rio Tinto Alcan, AstraZeneca, Deloitte, Industry Canada and Journal Les Affaires," said André Gamache, President and Chief Executive Officer of Montréal International. "We appreciate their support for such a promising initiative for Greater Montréal," he added.
