Jason Fan appointed Chair of INDIGO Advisory Group
05.04.2011 News
Montreal (Canada) - INDIGO, the International Indigenous Design Network, is pleased to welcome Jason Fan (Taiwan - Chinese Taipei), new Chair of the Advisory Group. Jason, who has been appointed by the Icograda Board, will oversee the development of INDIGO and further its mission on an international scale. He brings to the network extensive knowledge of indigenous Taiwanese culture and design and is presently coordinating the first Mother Tongue exhibition in collaboration with National Taiwan University of Arts. Jason believes that “indigenous art and culture is an infinite gold mine for designers to explore.”
Jason Fan received a master's degree in Communication Design at Pratt Institute in New York, USA, 1989. He founded Signet Design Co. Ltd in 1991 with the goal of combining local spirits with global vision. Signet soon became a leading design firm in Taiwan, serving many major local and international corporations. Jason has received numerous awards for his work in graphic design, notably the Preeminent Alumni of National Taiwan University of Arts in 2007.
Jason has devoted much of his time to teaching and is often invited to be a lecturer or juror, including engagements in China, other parts of Asia and Europe. Between 2006 and 2008, Jason served as the president of the Taiwan Graphic Design Association. During that time he got involved with the Indigenous People's Commission of Taipei City, a collaboration of government and several non-profit organisations. Jason continues to assist in organising and designing exhibitions and seminars, trying to bridge modern design disciplines with indigenous craftsmanship, in order to create a mixed yet unique solution.
During his tenure as the CEO of the Cultural & Creative Industries Center at National Taiwan Normal University, Jason worked to cultivate closer relations with design related associations locally and globally. Jason is one of the originators and a current delegate member of Taiwan Design Alliance, a respected multidisciplinary association of Taiwanese designers. In October 2009, Jason was elected Icograda Vice President.
Jason Fan assumes the position of Chair from David Lancashire, who has retired from the Icograda Board, but will remain on the INDIGO Advisory Board. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to David for the dedication and passion that he's shared throughout his term and wish him well as he explores new endeavours.
