26.09.2024 Announcements

The Council is pleased to announce the Professional Code of Conduct for designers now exists in the official Portuguese translation produced by an Editorial Board composed of Emanuel Barbosa, João Lemos, Margarida Azevedo and Tiago Machado.

The International Council of Design presents the Professional Code of Conduct for designers as an international standard and reference. It is an aspirational document, intended to serve as a touchstone for professional associations crafting their own Codes and to support educational institutions developing curricula. It is a tool for any designer who seeks to adhere to international standards. Thanks to the contributions of its Members and community, in addition to the Portuguese version announced today, the Council now provides original translations — side-by-side translations from English, vetted by the Council — in Arabic, Spanish, and Turkish. Translations are also available in Polish (STGU), Japanese (JAGDA) and Lithuanian (LDA). The Portuguese translation of the Code is the seventh translation.

The Editorial Board for this new edition in Portuguese was led by Emanuel Barbosa, professor of design at ESAD - College of Arts and Design (Porto), with whom we co-created an ICoD Regional Meeting in Matsosinhos (Portgual) in 2019; and João Lemos and Margarida Azevedo (PhD, designers and design educators for more that 30 years); as well as Tiago Machado, PhD, and Professor in Persuasive Design at the University of Lisbon.
