CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: WORLD OLYMPIAD FOR URBAN DESIGN (WOUD-2008) IDENTITY

Introduction
The objective of the World Olympiad for Urban Design
is to enhance the quality of urban spaces in the cities of the world.
It is intended as a sustainable program to be held every 4 years in one
of the member countries of UN-HABITAT. The first World Olympiad for Urban Design
will be held in Iran in 2008 and is being organised by the
International Art & Architecture Research Association (IAARA) under
UN-HABITAT. The theme for the event is "Creativity for Urban
Sustainability".
The city is one of the most complicated
human issues in sustainable development . Urban design is a scale of
involvement in the city frame which provides the field for
participation, decision making and building the city for people and it
might be the significant place for revision and amendment to urban
issue.
Iran, with its historical and archeological
background in urban dwelling, urban development and long experience of
civilisation is the appropriate origin for this global event.
WOUD-2008 Framework
From
each of the member countries of UN-HABITAT, one city will participate
in this event by introducing a specific site of the city in order to
enhance urban living environment quality with the emphasis on social,
cultural, economical, artistic and professional aspects and based on
the significant identity and sustainable development indicator, which
is a profound and applicable outlook in Agenda 21 of United Nations
mandate for sustainable development.
Call for submissions
The
Secretariat of World Olympiad for Urban Design (WOUD-2008) and the
Iranian Academy of Art, in collaboration with the International Art
& Architecture Research Association (IAARA), Iranian National
Commission for UNESCO, Iranian Union of Graphic Designers, Parsyad
Urban Design Research Group and the United Nations Human Settlements
Program: UN-HABITAT, are inviting international submissions for the
design of the WOUD 2008 identity.
