Hong Kong (China) - During the Icograda Design Week in Hong Kong, there is an opportunity for Icograda's Member Associations to display the works of their members that address the issues of sustainability and social responsibility. We are interested in showcasing how graphic designers and visual communicators have applied their energies to making a difference by design.

The event is being organized by Icograda and the Hong Kong Design Center. Supporting partners are the Hong Kong Designers Association, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education.

The exhibition will be shown at the LCX shopping mall in Hong Kong from 20 > 25 January 2006.

This is an open invitation to all Icograda members. We would appreciate if this information is distributed through your membership to designers and professionals interested in the issues being focused upon by this exhibition.

Participation

1 - Each Member Association may submit up to 3 pieces created between 2000-2005.

Entries may feature any category of visual communications, including packaging, environmental graphics and identity campaigns. We are particularly interested in examples of cross-disciplinary approaches to graphic design.

The maximum dimensions for printed work is 24"x 35.5" (60cm x 90cm) paper size.

2 - The submission (entry) form should accompany each piece, including the name and the nationality of the designer as well as the title, year and a 100-word description of how the work addresses the theme.

For each submission, please send a brief biography for the designer and a personal photograph.

3 - The submissions should be shipped to Hong Kong Design Centre (Attn: Amy Chow) as PRINTED MATTER by registered air-mail in a simple packet, unframed, without mount, bearing the declaration "No commercial value".

Please note: packages with declared amounts arrive directly in the customs so they shall be returned back from the customs for the costs of the sender.

4 - Reproduction

Icograda and the Hong Kong Design Centre reserve the rights to photograph and reproduce works in a printed catalogue, in CDR, in the Internet gallery and also for advertising and publicity purposes.

5 - Selection for Exhibition

About Icograda Design Week in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a city of great contrast and diversities. It is so tiny, but has to many things. But does tiny mean incapable? Does many mean modern/contemporary, fulfilling and civilized? We describe Hong Kong people as very flexible and highly practical, but is that good or bad? Hong Kong is a shopping paradise, so does that mean it is taking part in consumerism and exploitation? What is the role of design in such a city? How can design influence our views? And how can designers make a positive impact with their skills in Hong Kong?
