Brussels (Belgium) - Graffiti, 'awaiting trial prisoners cell block' Constitution Hill. In 1994 South Africa became a democracy and gained a new Constitution. In celebration of the first 10 years of our democracy, The New Constitutional Court of South Africa will open to the public in Johannesburg in April 2004. The 11 Constitutional Court judges commissioned the design of a unique typeface to be used exclusively by the Court. This is the story of how historical apartheid lettering, jail cell graffiti and street type were visually mixed to create letterforms - and then a complete font. The result is a unique typeface interpretation that reflects the spirit of our new democracy, the architecture and art that surrounds it.
