ICOGRADA ENDORSES CANNES DESIGN LIONS

Montreal (Canada) - Icograda is pleased to announce its endorsement of the inaugural Cannes Design Lions. Now in its 55 year, the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival is the largest gathering of worldwide advertising professionals and advertisers as well as the most prestigious international annual advertising awards.
"The Festival has an exceptional reputation in the creative community for its international scope and vision. Our endorsement celebrates the positioning of communication design as an integral process in brand building and the Festival's commitment to meeting Icograda's best practices for design competitions." said Brenda Sanderson, Icograda's Managing Director. "We are pleased to be working with the Festival organisers in achieving these shared values."
2008 A FIRST FOR DESIGN AT CANNES
Adding design further enhances and complements the celebration of creativity at the week-long festival that already includes the categories of Press, Outdoor, Film, Media, Sales Promotion, Cyber, Direct, Titanium, Integrated and Radio advertising.
Philip Thomas, Festival CEO, said: "The industry has been talking to us for some time about the introduction of design as a category in the world's most important festival, and this year we feel that its time has come. Design's importance in the world of communications and marketing becomes more important all the time, and judging from the fantastic response we have had, the introduction of design into Cannes Lions is not a moment too soon."
DESIGN THAT IS "CHALLENGING AND CHANGE MAKING"
Rodney Fitch CBE, Chairman & CEO of Fitch Worldwide, leads the inaugural Design Lions judging that will take place in Cannes during the Festival week. Fitch has set a high bar, "In this inaugural year, IÂll do my utmost to bring before an eminent jury of fellow designers, work thatÂs innovative, inspirational and uplifting; thatÂs challenging and change making and work that demonstrates the highest qualities of craftsmanship and creativity."
The 12-person panel that has been assembled under Fitch's leadership represents design leadership in 10 countries from around the globe:
Design Lions will honour the creative and innovative use of design for the brand and product communication and development. Categories include Packaging Design, Brand Identity and Environmental Design. Entries will be rewarded for Creativity, Originality, Execution and Consumer Engagement.
The winners of the first ever Design Lions and Grand Prix will be presented in Cannes on 18 June 2008 alongside the Press and Cyber Lions winners.
