Tokyo (Japan) Â– , Japan?s only comprehensive design promotion organisation, has released the results of Special Award winners of Good Design Award 2011 as of 9 November. Special Award winners were selected from all Good Design Award 2011 winners. Fifty six entries were recognised across six award categories:

Good Design Grand Award

The Good Design Grand Award recognises the best and most popular entry selected from all award winners, through the votes of the judges and visitors to the Good Design Exhibition.

On 12 March, a day after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake, driving data collected from the vehicles of Honda?s Internavi, the membership car-navigation system was quickly used to release information on traffic status of routes, to support smooth movement in disaster area. Then, Google released the traffic map using this information on 14 March so that people could easily use the updated information to help residents of disaster areas. This is the exquisite corporate contribution design for the society and creative endeavor to be assigned for Grand Award.

Good Design Award is a comprehensive program for the evaluation and encouragement of design organised by Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP). This award system was originally born in 1957, out of the belief that design was essential in breaking out of the cycle of poverty in Japan. Since then, the Good Design Award has been given to outstanding designs for more than 50 years in the pursuit of prosperous lives and industrial development.
