DESIGN> launches DESIGN> EDUCATION magazine
11.02.2010 News
Johannesburg (South Africa) - , a free subscription information platform and an International Design Media Network participant, announces the launch edition of DESIGN> EDUCATION magazine, an online publication that aims to nurture and stimulate young minds to reach their full potential by exposing them to the current realities and developments of the design industry.
There are clearly enormous gaps between the educational value added at secondary and tertiary levels and the actual requirements of the design industry. In many instances, learners, students, teachers and lecturers are not aware or do not have access to what is happening in commerce and industry.
DESIGN> EDUCATION magazine (or simply ED>) has been positioned to be a forum where these gaps can be addressed in a tone and style that is appropriate to the audience. Through the careful selection of articles and subject matter, the DESIGN> EDUCATION magazine aims to nurture and stimulate young minds to reach their full potential by exposing them to the current realities and developments of the design industry.
The intended target audience is high school learners, teachers, tertiary students, lecturers and parents. ED> aims to achieve a better informed and better equipped future generation of designers who have a clear grasp of the challenging roles and responsibilities required by a new age, infused by technology, yet anchored in the solid values of designing a better future that serves all of humanity. ED> also aims to inspire talented young minds to pursue careers in design, empower art and design teachers with relevant teaching resources and solicit greater respect for the discipline amongst career guidance teachers, school headmasters and education administrators.
The editorial content of this launch edition of ED> focuses the South African design environment but it is envisaged that future editions will be more inclusive to also include substantial contributions from the rest of the African continent and other parts of the world.
