Hong Kong (Hong Kong) - A record 588 entries worldwide judged by their influence on Asian lifestyle
The
Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) has announced the appointment of a Final
Judging Panel for Design For Asia Award (DFA Award) 2007, Asia s
premier design award. The globally-representative judging panel is
composed of renowned professionals and experts from a variety of
business, professional, academic and design disciplines who have local
and international experience. From a record-breaking 588 entries
representing more than 20 countries, the judges will select the winners
based on the three criteria of good design, influence in Asia and
commercial success.
The DFA Award is an annual event
organised by the Hong Kong Design Centre to recognise companies from
around the world which have generated business success through great
design that impacts Asia. We are privileged that our Final Judging
Panel has a strong understanding of Asian design and Asian culture, and
includes design practitioners who have proven track records of
excellence. As a group they represent an outstanding range of design
expertise, said Victor Lo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the
Hong Kong Design Centre.. The quality of our judges indicates how
seriously we take the selection of winners, making the Design for Asia
Award a true mark of excellence.
This year s final judging panel consists of:
- Victor Lo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Design Centre
- Freeman Lau, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Design Centre
- Tetsuyuki Hirano, President of Hirano & Associates, Inc., Japan
- Kelley Cheng, Editorial Director of Page One Publishing Pte. Ltd. and Creative Director of Page One Group, Singapore
- Chung Kyung-won, Professor for the Department of Industrial Design at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Korea
- John Heskett, Chair Professor at the School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong
- Kuan Cheng-neng, Director for the Graduate Institute of Industrial Design at Shih-Chien University, Taiwan
- Paul Priestman, Founding Director of Priestman Goode, United Kingdom
- Ole Scheeren, Partner at the Office for Metropolitan Architecture, Netherlands
- Zhou Yi, President & Founder of s.point design, China
Chiang
further stated, "it s encouraging that this year s DFA Award received
an unprecedented 588 entries from more than 20 countries around the
world - from across Asia, and as far away as Europe, and the United
States. The overwhelming response represents a recognition by both
design practitioners and the business sector of the DFA Award s success
in promoting design excellence.
From among the entries,
123 finalists have been selected, and more than half 66 finalists are
from the Greater China region. The DFA Award is divided into three
categories: DFA Grand Award, the DFA Best Design from Greater China,
and the DFA Special Merit Award.
The winners will be
announced on 12 December at the HKDC Annual Award Gala Dinner in front
of an audience of designers and artists from Asia and the world, and
industry leaders and design association heads from far and wide. The
Gala Dinner is a highlight of HKDC s Business of Design Week (bodw)
2007, Asia s leading international conference dedicated to innovation,
design and brand, which will be held from 10 to 15 December.
