Moscow (Russian Federation) - The SOSznanie (Awareness) Competition is conceived as a part of the Contemporary Arts in Response to HIV/AIDS project carried out by the Cultural Policy Institute with the support of UNESCO Moscow Office for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Republic of Moldova and Russian Federation in the framework of the programme Cultural Approach to the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Care . The Competition is held in collaboration with the British Higher School of Art and Design, Moscow.

The Competition is aimed at raising awareness, fostering the positive values and tolerant attitude towards people living with HIV/AIDS. HIV/AIDS is a current and major issue in Russia and surrounding countries, where the level of ARV treatment medication availability is low, sensitisation material is scarce, and people living with HIV/AIDS often suffer from social exclusion, stigma and discrimination.

Eligibility. The Competition is held open for young designers from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova and the Russian Federation. The entrants must be up to 35 years old.

Target audience. It is particularly significant to raise HIV/AIDS awareness among youngsters, to prevent their possible infection. That is why the entries submitted to the Competition shall be addressed in the first place to the young audience and shall be created by young authors.

Awards. Entries selected for the Final Round of the Competition will be published on the web site of the project: www.artsandaids.ru and displayed on one of exhibition venues in Moscow. After the Jury has nominated the winners, 5 best posters will be printed and distributed through the network of stakeholders created during implementation of the project. The winners will be awarded UNESCO Diplomas.

The Award Ceremony and the Opening of the Poster Exhibition will take place on 1 December 2006 (World AIDS Day).
