Brussels (Belgium) - Sappi, the world's leading producer of coated fine paper used for high quality print, is funding eleven creative campaigns submitted in the Sappi Ideas that matter programme.

This unique initiative invites graphic designers to apply for substantial grants of up to   50,000 to fund the implementation of their ideas that support a worthy cause close to their hearts. This year 214 applications were received from the European design community.

The eleven selected campaigns promote the following causes: Wer was drauf hat, hat was drauf / Steirische Aids-Hilfe (Austria), Streetwork   mobile Jugendarbeit / mobile work with youngsters (Austria), Better play music / promotion de la musique aupres des jeunes (Belgium), Symbiose / Down Syndrom (Germany), Mit anderen Augen / Kinderkulturbrucke im Kosovo (Germany), Diakonisches Werk im Kirchenkreis Niederberg / upgrade of life grade of seniors (Germany), Die Bundesdeutsche Initiative fur ein Verbot von Landminen (Germany), Tobacco and Pregnancy (France), Love/Check / Aids (Netherlands), Missing / Alzheimers Society (United Kingdom) and NSPCC Full stop / prevention of cruelty to children (United Kingdom).

"We are encouraged by the willingness of graphic designers to donate their time and skills for the benefit of society," says Sappi Fine Paper Europe's corporate communications manager Craig Halgreen. "The combination of their creative ideas on our paper will result in greater awareness and funds for their chosen causes and thereby benefit society in a meaningful way."

The selection committee consisted of three Alliance Graphique Internationale members, Mervyn Kurlansky, Anette Lenz and Mario Eskenazi, and were assisted by Dirk Bogaert from Design for the World and Ivo Maassen from Sappi.

The campaigns were chosen on the basis of their creativeness related to the cause and the potential effectiveness of the campaign.

The applicants were required to submit their creative ideas along with a description of the campaign and its objectives, a cost estimate for its implementation and information about the non-profit organisation that looks after the chosen cause. The selected print based campaigns will be funded by Sappi and will be implemented over the coming months.
