Montréal (Canada) - The Icograda Executive Board has approved the applications of two new members: the Lebanese Graphic Design Syndicate (LGDS) as a Professional Member and Asociación Colombiana Red Académica de Dise?o (RAD) as an Education Member. Their membership strengthens Icograda's network by bringing voice from under-represented regions - Latin America and Western Asia.
Lebanese Graphic Design Syndicate
The Lebanese Graphic Design Syndicate was founded in 1976, reformed and restructured in 2010 to become the only official syndicate and professional forum for graphic designers in Lebanon, certified from the Lebanese Ministry of Interior and remunerated from the Lebanese government.
The association assesses the quality of graphic designers while at the same time establishing a better environment for them, by tapping into the professional interests of communication designers, creating a developed market, enhancing the design skills and backgrounds, design policies concerning governmental and public matters, developing the creative climate.
Asociación Colombiana Red Académica de Dise?o
In 2004, the directors of a group of design programmes in Colombia were meeting frequently to discuss academic approaches to design. The need for an organised body representing and promoting Design in Colombia as an academic discipline became evident.
This small group of members announced their intent to create a Colombian design network. At the the first official meeting, on 18 July, 29 directors from recognised design programmes signed the constitution of the 'Asociación Colombiana Red Académica de Dise?o' (RAD). RAD members agreed to its mission, network activities, rights and obligations at the first meeting.
Since then, the Colombian academic network has been working with the main mission statement to 'represent and promote Design as an academic discipline, both in local and international realms,' The members unites as a network to construct academic quality through meetings and joint action.
RAD sought membership in Icograda for the opportunity to represent Colombia and South America through its diverse activities and discussions. By sharing these experiences at a local level, the association seeks to improve the quality of Design as a discipline.
