MOUSHARAKA LAUNCHES DESIGN DEBATE DOHA

Doha (Qatar) - As part of the , taking place from 28 February to 5 March 2009, Design Debate Doha is an opportunity for the design community to address an important global design issue in debate form.
The first Design Debate Doha will feature six panelists, three arguing for the topic, and three presenting opposing viewpoints. The debate will be moderated by Kamahl Santamaria, Aljazeera International host/speaker.

Rick Poynor (United Kingdom) FOR Founder and columnist for Eye magazine in London in 1990, Poynor has written countless articles and books about design, media and visual culture. Poynor lectures widely on design matters in Europe, the United States and Australia. | |
Dr. Sami Angawi (Saudi Arabia) FOR A former fellow of the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, Angawi is the founder and General Director of the AMAR Centerin Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. | |
Russell Kennedy (Australia) FOR Currently Icograda's President Elect, Kennedy has been active in the development of the Icograda Education Network and the deployment and promotion of worldwide educational exchange initiatives. | |
Ibrahim Jaidah (Qatar) AGAINST A graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Jaidah acquired the Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB) in 1991. He helped AEB expand to become the leading architectural design consultancy in Qatar, with operations in Abu Dhabi, Manila, and Kuala Lumpur. | |
Petra Blaisse (The Netherlands) AGAINST Blaisse started her career at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and worked as freelance designer, winning distinction for her work. She founded the studio Inside Outside in 1991. | |
Roger Mandle (Qatar) AGAINST Formerly President of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for 15 years, Mandle is now the Head of the Qatar Museums Authority. He directs and oversees its growing complex of institutions. |
