The ico-D Board conducted the first full-scale Board Meeting of the current term at our new offices in Montréal, Canada on 30-31January 2016. As six of the current ten Board Members are new, this was an opportunity for orientation. Each member of the Secretariat, lead by Managing Director Ana Masut, introduced themselves and presented the activities for which they are responsible. Treasurer Peter Florentzos conducted a session describing financial management and oversight methods.
This Board has adopted a subcommittee structure reflecting major focus areas that will operate by Skype between physical Board Meetings to ensure more effectiveness. In particular, this Board sees development of the professional and educational Member Platforms as a way to enhance Member activity and influence as well as providing value to Members. Individual Board subcoms have started work on ensuring that the Educational Platform Meeting (eduPM) in August at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the Professional/Promotional Platform Meeting (prof/promoPM), Annual General Meeting (AGM) in October at Istanbul Bilgi University in Turkey will be worthwhile and attractive events. Details will be circulated shortly.
The success of the Platforms depends on Member participation. You will be invited to join Work Groups preparing these meetings. Please plan to attend and participate: visit the and the prof/promoPM event page for more information.
In Montréal, ico-D became the first organisation to sign an to participate in the 2017 World Design Congress and Summit. The 2017 Summit will be a historic opportunity for the international community of designers. We have to make the most of it. As one of the Founding Members of the Summit Steering Committee, ico-D will be playing an influential role. 50 international entities will be sitting around the Summit table in 2017—25 representing design, architecture and planning disciplines and 25 representing international financial, social, cultural and environmental entities. We urge all to become involved and active. And we urge ico-D Members to impact the Summit program directly via our Platform Meetings.
The Congress and additional activities in Montréal planned for October 2017 are very ambitious and promise a unique experience. Plan to be in Montréal!
The Board discussed additional ares of focus for the current term. In particular, we will continue the transformation started in the previous term to become fully multidisciplinary. In the coming weeks and months, we will report on concrete evidence of progress.
The Board is off to a good start. Our next meeting is in Turin, Italy in April.
