INDIGO launches Talking Stick: a community blog

Montreal (Canada) - INDIGO, the International Indigenous Design Network, is pleased to announce the launch of its new community blog: Talking Stick. Talking Stick was developed to encourage discourse between INDIGO's enthusiastic network of participants and collect commentary from the design community at large.
The name "Talking Stick" refers to the ceremonial token of respect used during council meetings by native tribes in North America. Traditionally, the talking stick is passed on from one member to another ensuring that all ideas are heard. The person holding the stick has the right to speak. This allows for a means of just and impartial hearing as each member is granted a turn to speak, signifying that all members of the circle are valued equally.
Talking Stick provides an informal space for participants to express their individual and collective thoughts, opinions and experiences on all INDIGO-related themes. It embodies the inclusive and participatory nature of the network by allowing for friendly dialogue between members and by acting as a personal area for storytelling. Individuals from around the world may participate in Talking Stick by signing up as participants of INDIGO.
Robert L. Peters, INDIGO Ambassador, has been invited to moderate Talking Stick, to provide direction and expertise. Robert is a designer and principal of Circle, a design consultancy he co-founded in 1976. He served as Icograda President 2001-2003 and was involved in the conceptualisation and birth of INDIGO. INDIGO, the International Indigenous Design Network, is an Icograda-led initiative of the IDA (International Design Alliance). It was developed as a research project by Monash University, under the leadership of Russell Kennedy, currently Icograda President 2009-2011 and a Monash faculty member, and its development was managed under license by the National Design Centre in Melbourne, Australia. Since 2009, the INDIGO Secretariat has been headquartered in Montreal, Canada.
