Brussels (Belgium) - On 13-14 March 2002, an Icograda Regional Meeting will be held in Vancouver, Canada. This meeting will be a unique opportunity for participants to meet and to discuss the state of Graphic Design in North America.

For Icograda, the primary objective of holding this first Icograda Regional Meeting in North America is to identify how best to support our Icograda Members and how best to serve Graphic Design in North America. In the past two years, Icograda Regional Meetings have been held in Istanbul, Seoul, Copenhagen, Zagreb, Cuba and Melbourne. These meetings were effective in terms of diverse participation, building valuable contacts, sharing information on topics of concern, and the development of regional agendas for the profession.

Graphic designers face numerous challenges and often operate under difficult circumstances. The Vancouver Icograda Regional Meeting will permit an open and candid exchange between participants and the Icograda Board. An attempt will be made to forge a regional agenda which will foster shared activities permitting mutually beneficial co-operation.

Delegates will have the opportunity to make short presentations on the situation in their countries. Presentations will be followed by discussions, workshops and the development of a regional agenda.

Topics to be Discussed
1: What is the situation regarding Graphic Design in North America: recognition, achievements, accreditation, professional fees, professional practice, difficulties, achievements, problems and challenges?
2: How does the economic situation in North America affect graphic designers, both in their day-to-day work and their ongoing development?
3: Global versus Local: Do Graphic Designers in North America follow international graphic design trends or are they developing distinct vernacular or a North American style?
4: How does new technology affect Graphic Design and the day-to-day work of designers in North America?
5: What is the state of Graphic Design Education in North America? Is Graphic Design Education responding to market needs? (Development and Education agenda).
6: How does Graphic Design serve social and cultural needs in North America?
7. How can Icograda help the Graphic Design profession in North America?
