The graphic design program at the Sault College in
Canada provides students with a broad range of skills for a career in
the printed and electronic communication industry. First-year students
are provided with a strong foundation in the development of creative
and technical skills and professional working habits. Second- and
third-year students solve increasingly complex visual design and
production problems using a variety of media and methods. In the final
semester, students are introduced to the offset printing industry and
are given the opportunity to design and print their own
self-promotional designs at a printing firm.

education outside mainland China . By establishing academic ties with
24 universities and colleges, 63 research institutes and 34 media
outlets in Taiwan, Xiamen University has become one of the universities

Bilgi University in
Istanbul was host to the 2004 Icograda Design Week. Established in
1997, the Istanbul Bilgi University Visual Communication Design
Department aims at educating the designers of tomorrow with the
expertise first to conceive the most compelling visual problems then
dwell upon them systematically, applying their practical media skills
together with theoretical knowledge so as to offer creative solutions.
At the end of this challenging process, students become adept in
advancing the applications of developing technologies in daily life.
Towards the fulfillment of this mission, the program is designed to
equip the students with a professional and comprehensive training in
visual media while endowing them with the required liberal arts
education.
UCLA's Department of Design and Media Arts
in the United States is committed to educating responsible designers
and artists for the information age by teaching the fundamentals of
Design, Media, and the Arts, and encouraging experimentation and
innovation. Providing an extensive education in Design and Media Arts
practice, history and criticism, the department fosters a critical and
creative exploration of emerging forms of visual communication,
typographies, interaction and interface design, ubiquitous computing,
virtual environments, information spaces, networked agents and all
other pertinent areas of research.
The University of Florida's School of Art & Art History
is part of the challenging academic climate found at UF, one of the
largest comprehensive research universities in the United States. It
provides an excellent backdrop to teach design in the context of ideas.
The BFA program emphasizes concept development and application, work
with clients, theory, and collaborative studio work. The MFA program
emphasizes the application of theory to the practise of design within
the context of cultural studies. The University of Florida is
particularly interested in emerging cross-cultural and international
issues. Faculty encourage a rich mix of interests and experiences, and
support innovative and creative thinking so students may positively
contribute to the discipline.
