Icograda Design Education Manifesto 10-year anniversary celebrations

Jinan (China) - The opened today in Jinan, China. The events are being hosted by Icograda Education member Shandong University of Art and Design, under the theme "Future of Design Education."

Opening ceremony addresses were offered by Omar Vulpinari, Icograda Vice President (Italy) and Professor Pan Lusheng, President of Shandong University of Art and Design (China), followed by the openings of "Manifesto. Second Edition," an international poster exhibition of 20 design philosophies, and a second exhibition of work from pre-conference workshops.

After a tour of both exhibitions, keynote sessions by Ahn Sang-Soo, Professor at Hongik University (South Korea), Audrey Bennett, Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (United States) and He Jie, Vice Director of Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University (China) set the stage for reflection from eastern and Western perspectives on design education. Afternoon sessions included parallel tracks on the future of design education and the future needs of industry from the design sector:

Icograda Design Education Manifesto workshop

On 3 November, conference delegates will take part in a workshop to craft an update to the 2000 Icograda Design Education Manifesto. The workshop will lay the foundation for a new edition of the Icograda Design Education Manifesto, which will be printed and distributed at the Icograda General Assembly 24 in October 2011. The update aims to encompass Icograda's forward-looking approach on the state of design and strengthen its commitment in building the standard of design education. Co-chairs Ahn Sang-Soo and Audrey Bennett will lead the workshop and encourage participants to contribute their responses reflecting both Eastern and Western ideologies. Close to 40 speakers, educators and students will contribute to the workshop results.
