Entries open to Melbourne Design Awards

Melbourne (Australia) - Entries have opened to the (MDA) – a new awards program in association with the Design Institute of Australia, Victorian Branch, that honours Melbourne's best design across more than fifty categories. Now endorsed by Icograda, the MDA will culminate with a gala ceremony announcing the winners on 8 December 2010.
The MDA are the only design awards recognising such a broad range of design categories, that are cross-disciplinary and honour all aspects of the design process. In addition, the public are able to vote for finalists after industry panels have reviewed entries.
Melbourne is the inaugural city for the program's parent association, the City Design Awards, which has plans for Design Awards in Paris, New York, Stockholm, Helsinki and Taipei.
Mark Bergin, Creative Director of MDA said the Awards stemmed from a wish to elevate the profile of the entire design process, not just the end result. He added that the MDA will help form stronger links between designers and the broader public.
"MDA is about engaging industry and the public in all stages of design. By honouring the best of Melbourne's design, we elevate the city's position as a design hotspot globally."

The MDA features a phenomenal range of categories covering excellence across fields including products and furnishings, architecture, interiors, landscape design, advertising graphic design, fashion, photography and digital media.
Entries are open to any designer, design company, commissioner of design or student, provided they are active in the Melbourne market.
Entries are open until 31 October and can be submitted online at: www.melbournedesignawards.com.au
All entries will be viewable and once finalists are chosen, they can be voted on by the public. Follow the Awards as they progress on Facebook.
