ChinaThe International Council of Design is pleased to announce that the 30 General Assembly (30GA) will be held on 19 October 2024 at the Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research (TASA), a research campus of ICoD Member Tsinghua University. In 2024, the GA will be preceded by an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to be held at the same location.
At the biennial General Assembly, Members consider and vote on policy, elect the next Executive Board, approve the financial statements, appoint the Audit Committee and ratify the admission of new ICoD Members, as well as discuss important proposals to make ICoD better able to serve the international design community.
In 2024, the General Assembly will be held in conjunction with a special Platform Meeting, the first TASA-ICoD International Conference on Evolving Design Education Curricula, which will take place on on 17–18 October 2024, in partnership with TASA (our Member Tsinghua University's Educational Research Lab). Due to the late hour of closing, we recommend that participants plan their departures for 20 October 2024.
2024 CALENDAR
Recommended Arrival | Tuesday 15 October 2024
We suggest that all international travellers arrive in Qingdao (China) on Tuesday 15 October as Event-related activities will commence on the 16th.
Welcome Reception | Wednesday 16 October 2024
The Welcome reception of the General Assembly is planned for the evening of 16 October 2024 (19:00), at the Conference hotel, the Qingdao SSAW Hotel (details below in the section on Accommodation).
Platform Meeting | Thursday 17 – Friday 18 October 2024
The first ICoD-TASA International Conference on Evolving Design Education Curricula will be conducted in conjunction with the Platform Meeting of ICoD Members offering a unique opportunity for interaction between design academics and professionals from around the world. Hosted at the recently completed campus of Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research (TASA), the conference will also celebrate the results of the first Summer Session conducted by the ICoD-TASA International Design Education Laboratory, a five-week intensive workshop involving delegations of students and lecturers from leading international and Chinese design schools. Awards Ceremony and Exhibition Opening | Friday 18 October 2024
Following the Conference / Platform Meeting a reception will be held at the Conference Venue that will include the Council's bi-Annual Awards Ceremony, where esteemed members of the ICoD community will be given the ICoD President's Award, ICoD Achievement Awards and the ICoD Education Award. This event will be followed by a reception and the opening of a new exhibit.

A Members only event, where matters relating to Council governance will be discussed.

The ICoD 30GA (open to Members only) will also be held at the TASA Campus in Qingdao (China). At the biennial General Assembly, Members consider and vote on policy, elect the next Executive Board, approve the financial statements, and ratify the admission of new Members to the Council. This is a forum to discuss important proposals to better serve the international design community.
Closing Reception GA | Saturday 19 October 2024
Closing all of the ICoD Events, on 19 October at the end of the General Assembly, a final reception will be held for the ICoD Members and Community at the Conference Venue. This will be a last chance for Members to network and say a final "until next time!" before the 2026 General Assembly. Event will run until 20:00 local time.

A special arrangement has been made with the Qingdao SSAW Hotel to provide accommodation for the Platform Meeting and 30GA participants. The hotel is located in proximity to the TASA campus allowing participants to walk to the venue.

The 30GA and related events will take place on the newly inaugurated Qingdao campus of ICoD Member Tsinghua University. The Tsinghua (Qingdao) Academy of Arts and Science Innovation Research, TASA, was established to promote research in areas supporting the integration of arts and science. The campus has a building area of over 127,000 square meters over 14 separate buildings. TASA is intended to create a platform for innovation incubation and research that facilitates interdisciplinary connections by bringing into full play the resources of Tsinghua University and the regional and industrial advantages of the city of Qingdao.
ABOUT THE CITY
Qingdao, China
Qingdao is a port city in Shandong province in China. It is located on the south coast of the Shangdong Peninsula at the eastern entrance to Jiaozhou (Kiaochow) Bay, one of the best natural harbours in northern China. The city was selected to host the yachting events of the 2008 Olympics. Qingdao has always been a major base for heavy industry, including iron and steel manufacturing. It is the heart of Chinese train manufacturing and today produces China’s fast trains. Qingdao is well known for its expertise in engineering, marine sciences, technology and textile production and is home to many of China’s leading manufacturers. The city is a leader in film and television production. Qingdao is a centre for higher education and culture and is noted for its unique urban character, parks and beaches. The city has a population of 6 million. It is connected by high-speed train to Beijing and Shanghai and is served by Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (TAO) with direct flights to Europe, the Middle East, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Australia.
