ICoD is pleased to announce the Member Event, HKDI Master Lecture Series 2024: Hallyu, organised by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI). The event will take place from 07 to 29 October 2024.

SUMMARY

This October, the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) is holding several Korean design-focused talks as part of its annual recurring Master Lecture Series. From October 7 to 29, design enthusiasts can hear from Korean experts who come from a diverse range of backgrounds, all related to the Korean Wave or ‘Hallyu’.

Learn about how traditional ceramic works can be reinterpreted into modern arts, gain insight into Korean pop culture and its global reach, get to know about the creative process behind developing the 2022 hit blockbuster film Kingmaker, and get to know all the hottest Korean beauty trends in a makeup and hairstyling workshop!



EVENT DESCRIPTION

Organised by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) and supported by the Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong (KCC), a series of hybrid and onsite events under the theme "Hallyu" (Korean Wave)” will be held from 7 to 29 October 2024. Renowned speakers will guide audiences through diverse topics, including the reinterpretation of traditional Korean ceramics into modern art, contemporary makeup and hairstyling, cartoon creation and animation, as well as film production.


[1: Hybrid Lecture] 7 Oct 2024, Monday | A Sustainable Journey of Ceramics

In this ceramic master lecture, Ms KIM will share her design concepts and process, as well as how to market her work. The lecture will be held on the theme of sustainable thinking in art, by reinterpreting traditions into modern art. She will also share how to transfer traditional ceramics into contemporary language whilst showcasing her artwork and her famous “FLOW BLUE Series”.


[2: Hybrid Lecture] | 28 Oct 2024, Monday | Hallyu, Where Does It Come From, What Is It? Where Is It Going?

This workshop, designed specifically for students, showcases the iconic styles that define Korean makeup. Students will practice creating admirable makeup looks, exploring the captivating world of Korean beauty and the charm of K-beauty trends. They will enhance their makeup skills in this interactive workshop and embrace the essence of K-beauty alongside their classmates.


[4: Hybrid Talk and Movie Screening] | 29 Oct 2024, Tuesday| Korean Movie Screening and Talk with the Production Designer: Kingmaker

"Kingmaker" is a 2022 Korean film based on a true story of South Korean politics. This film depicts the complex relationship and power dynamics between former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and his political strategist over the course of Kim’s political endeavors. The Production Designer will share insights into the creative process and visual concepts behind the film, and the on-screen realization.
